DTG: HD proposals compromise DTT viability

Valista a provider of multi-channel merchandising, payments and settlement solutions announced the results of a global poll of the media and entertainment, broadband/cable, and mobile industries on significant industry developments in 2007 as well as upcoming challenges and opportunities for 2008.

Forty-six per cent of mobile industry insiders surveyed believe that developing business strategies to capitalise on convergence will be the biggest challenge in 2008 - followed closely by declining ARPU at 30 per cent. Capitalising on convergence may become even more challenging when confronted with the pessimism within the broadband and cable industry where three quarters predict that less than 10 per cent of broadband and cable providers will offer programming over the mobile channel in 2008 - showing that mobile-broadband convergence is still viewed by the industry to be in its early stages.

Well said Mr. Lee

Take a look at the exit polls coming out of the primaries thus far. Men are going for Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton. In California, men went for Obama, 51 percent to Clinton's 39 percent, according to the San Jose Mercury News. In South Carolina, 55 percent of men voted for Obama, with only 23 going for Clinton. (Edwards took the bulk of the rest.)

This is not about sexism. But try telling that to feminists Gloria Steinem and Erica Jong, who both recently wrote whiny op-eds about the urgency of voting for girl power now. I suspect the folks going for Obama are casting their votes for the undefined, middle-of-the-spectrum candidate. Although, according to National Journal, he is the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate, he doesn't come off that way on the campaign trail: Obama sounds and looks conservative enough that even conservative pundits have had good things to say about him -- a fact that promises to be a detriment to those conservatives if he becomes the Democratic nominee.

Under the Hood With Knight Rider 2.0: Trans Am vs. Ford Mustang ...

One of the cooler features of the Mustang KITT is air-ride suspension, which allows its driver to lower the car's ride height when the vehicle morphs from Hero to Attack mode. "When it goes on the offensive, it gets slammed to the ground," Moser chuckles. Very aggressive, indeed. There will be three models used in filming: Hero (essentially a stock GT500KR); Attack (the tricked-out model); and Remote Control (operated via RC, obviously). "All of the ‘transforming' will be done through CGI animation like in the Transformers movie," Moser admits. (Click here for behind-the-scenes digital wizardry from this summer's blockbuster flick.) For all you Trans Am holdouts, Mustang droolers and Hasselhoff haters, here's the very first look at all of the new KITT's gee-whiz specs and functionality, matched up to the original to determine which is better equipped for Hollywood crime-fighting.

Energy bars taste like candy, packed with protein, but most don't need ...

Wrapped like little stocking stuffers in colorful foil, protein bars beckon from the checkout stands at sports stores and nutrition centers. With flavors such as "S'mores" and "Cookies and Cream Caramel Crisp," and packed with as much as 30 grams of protein, they offer weightlifters and extreme athletes a siren song of rippling muscles in a gooey kid's bar.

"Adding protein is an attempt to aid the person that's trying to manipulate their body composition," says Jeff Kotterman, a licensed sports nutritionist and director of the National Association of Sports Nutrition in San Diego. "This (is) for someone who wants to lose body fat and maintain muscle."

Transcript: Hillary Clinton on 'FOX News Sunday'

Well, let me follow up on that, if I can. Last September when General Petraeus testified before Congress about the surge working, here was your reaction. Let's take a look.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CLINTON: I think that I — the reports that you provide to us really require the willing suspension of disbelief.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

WALLACE: Senator, since then, the violence is clearly dropping, has continued to drop. Baghdad is sharing oil revenue with the provinces. They have passed a law to allow at least some Sunnis back into the government.

Clearly, there are a lot of problems, but why are you so determined to declare defeat?

CLINTON: Well, that's not at all what I'm doing. I think there's a difference between tactical success on the ground — and I've been, you know, very positive about what our young men and women in uniform can accomplish, especially if we put them in in sufficient numbers — and strategic success.

English learners deserve an education

Take the Escondido Union Elementary School District, for example. While total enrollment increased by about 1,800, or 11 percent, the number of English Learners increased by more than 2,800, or 48 percent. During that same period the number of FEP students increased by 1,800, or 352 percent. Shouldn't that be a cause for celebration? It's the same story for Vista Unified. While total enrollment increased by 8 percent, the number of English Learners increased by 21 percent, and the number of FEP students by a whopping 195 percent. I'd say something good is happening in those schools. Some believe the teaching of English as a second language is a waste of taxpayer money and that the children of illegal immigrants don't deserve a place in the classroom. I think they're wrong on constitutional, economic and humanitarian grounds. It would be unconstitutional for schools to deny access on the basis of someone's immigration status or English proficiency.

A day in the life

They start spreading out so that they have room to stretch. With her yellow cards in hand, Godfrey makes sure the whole group knows how to do the warm-ups. Not only stretching, the students will do situps, pushups and scissor jumps.Godfrey puts down the cards and turns on her trusty CD player. She's gone through a few in her stint at Ethel Kight, and today it's blaring Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl.""I was the drum major in the band, so I was involved with music plus P.E. at the same time," she said, "so that's why I think music's so important in my program."During Jump Rope for Heart training and some dancing, the students listen to "Soul Man" by Sam & Dave, "I Like to Move It" by Reel 2 Reel and "Stop in the Name of Love" by the Supremes. The students challenge each other, but everything's always resolved.

Patients want GP surgeries to open evenings and weekends

The GPs brigade would happily post their spins today as they opted out of week end working, and are paid more! Only in the UK this scandal happens. The average time I spent in my GPs surgery is about 7 mins, and can some one tell me whether it isenough to give a 'personalised' service. BMA the god father is there to look after them. I would welcome polyclinics or even scrapping GP model as it is today and adapting the French model which is the envy of the world. GPs wrongly diagnosed my problems and thanks to my persistence and a friendly consultant damage was not done. GPs never retrain or go to refresher courses, and for a long time my GP was prescribing tablets which were superseded by better ones. So much for his professionalism. GP practice is a business which works well for the GP and his spouse who is often the practice manager.
