India hold off nerves to enter final

New Delhi: India have reached the final of the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia with a thrilling win over New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday.

In a rain-reduced match, India were set a revised target of 191 in 43 overs after New Zealand had made 205 for eight batting first.

Despite being reduced to 139 for six at one stage, the Kiwis staged a fine recovery to cross the 200-run mark. Corey Anderson top scored with 70 from just 68 balls, while three Indians picked up a couple of wickets each.

In response the Indian innings faltered briefly despite a half-century by opener Shreevats Goswami. But Saurabh Tiwary guided the team home with a calm 29. But it was captain Virat Kohli who led from the front with two wickets and a determined 43.

USDA Recommends That Food From Clones Stay Off the Market

The Food and Drug Administration has concluded that milk and meat from cloned animals, such as these cows, should be allowed on the market. That stance has raised a debate over whether food from clones that are raised organically could still carry the organic label. (PRNewsFoto/ViaGen) .

University Requires Emergency Texting

The school is the first in the nation to mandate that students sign up for text message alerts, WCVB-TV in Boston reported.

If students don't sign up, they can't register for spring classes.

This weekend, the school sent out test alerts to about 40,000 students.

There were glitches in the system, but the goal is to reach as many students as possible, as fast as possible, to improve response time to a crisis. .

Perhaps a turning point for Jackets, Hewitt

But coaches will tell you the only thing more difficult then elevating a program is keeping it there. Tech's one tournament win in three seasons since might've satisfied the masses before, but not now. That, combined with this year's dreadful start, seemingly has worn on Hewitt. The losses of Javaris Crittendon and Thaddeus Young to the NBA hit the team harder than he expected, or at least publicly projected. With each defeat, Hewitt has become increasingly sensitive to perceived criticism. It all bubbled over on a sportstalk radio show Wednesday morning, when he vented frustrations on the team's flagship station (790 The Zone). He countered perceptions that the program was on a slide with statistics. He made some bizarre reference to several coaches being offered the Tech job before he was, effectively saying people shouldn't expect so much at little old Georgia Tech.

Ken Chambers Blog

The school was getting nervous when the bait was moving aggressively, but they would pounce on it if we moved it slowly.

Fortunately, within minutes, we were able to get a fish in the boat that weighed about 6.75 pounds, helping take a ton of pressure off us. The next cast produced a 4-pounder. Nice. Two fish in the well. Not winning fish but things were going our way. Fifteen minutes later, John stuck a 6.25-pound redfish and we were flying high.

Then we worked the Intracoastal a few more hours, but had nothing to upgrade our catch.

Our weight was enough for second place. You try to be happy about it, but we had winning on our minds.

Congratulations to Friday and Latham for a job well done: They earned the win. All of the teams in the finals were capable of catching that winning bag of fish, but Mike and Danny capitalized on their opportunities.

Responding to the Jack Lynch Non-Story

Facts do not equal truth, and if you want to argue the position that they do, you will likely feel as if you won, but truth will have lost. It is a fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, and we can make all sorts of observations about this and make claims such as "the sun rotates around the earth" or "we are the center of the universe." More exploration, however, tells us that not only does the earth actually rotate around the sun, but the illusion of the sun's rotation originates with our planet spinning on our own axis. In general, newspaper work doesn't require this much exploration or science, and I would hope the Spokesman-Review would care more about whether they can be as accurate as possible more than they do about whether they can claim dibs on being the first to report on a topic.

Goodbye, cruel world ...

The nomadic existence of undergrowth and ocean-dwelling is not for him: he needs a home. Each new paying resident of Second Life is offered a plot of land. Kenny chooses one on Blacktail Ridge. It is, I have to say, a disappointment: a dark and icy wasteland with a few scattered shacks. I'm reminded of my grandfather who emigrated to Australia in the Twenties on the promise of a parcel of verdant farmland in Victoria, and got there to discover he had been given some acres of waterlogged bog. He stayed for a decade. Kenny returns promptly to the beach.

Good land has become so rare in Second Life that people are prepared to pay hundreds of real dollars for it. You can buy a private island for $1,250, plus a monthly charge of $195 in land fees. There are several takers. Anshe Chung, Second Life's richest avatar, owns a property empire on the site worth $250,000 (£137,000) and employs 17 real-life people.

Honoring Zindler with matzo balls

On March 2, the memory of Channel 13's Marvin Zindler, arguably the most famous, most influential and inarguably most beloved TV personality in Houston history, will be celebrated and rejoiced ... with a big matzo-ball-eating contest at Kenny & Ziggy's delicatessen.

Sounds just about right to me. Marvin knew his way around a deli menu.

Around, upside down and inside out. And soup was one of his favorites.

World champion eater Joey Chestnut will compete in the "Matzoh Balls for Marvin" food fight. Chestnut is best known for dethroning the Japanese eating machine Kobayashi last July 4 in Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Contest on ESPN. Chestnut downed a record-shattering 66 franks and buns in 12 minutes. Last summer, Chestnut broke the kolache-eating record by gobbling 56 sausage-filled pastries at Minute Maid Park.

Cheer squad diaries: Florida

Bryant Gumble and several children's groups such as the Indianna Children's Choir and the Boys and Girls Club were there. It was so exciting to meet and interact with all of them.

Afterwards, we went to the RCA Dome to watch our Florida Gator Basketball team practice. We were amazed at the size of the dome and how many people were there. We were so thrilled to see so many gators fans and many of them asked for our autographs and took pictures with us.
Then, we walked around downtown and grabbed a bite to eat before heading back to Hoops City for another appearance, the Battle of the Bands. Each spirit team and band performed in front of their fans and there was a dance off competition among the mascots. It was a lot of fun.

Even though we didn't win, we still had a blast and are very excited about the upcoming game and events.
