BCCTA tackles grant, personnel issues

Speaking of which, I find it extremely unprofessional of you blogging your opinions on this site. Did you per chance use company time to do your blogging? Are our tax paying monies which, by extension, fund your position being spent for you to surf the 'net during business hours? Even if you are blogging on your own time, your participation here is highly unprofessional, and I resent it. " .

Are Vitamins In Soda Just A Gimmick?

Crisp, refreshing, effervescent soda has long been an American favorite but not for its nutritional value. According to University of the Sciences in Philadelphia's Ara DerMarderosian, PhD, professor of pharmacognosy, a few leading soft drink companies are trying to change the public's perception of soda by adding vitamins to their soft drinks. With March noted as National Nutrition month, it is a good time for consumers to beware that the perceived benefits of vitamins in soda can be deceiving.

"The shelf life and stability of vitamins in soda is low," said Dr. DerMarderosian. "Carbonated drinks are mildly acidic, and water-soluble vitamins will break down over time."

Several sodas are being marketing which contain vitamins and minerals such as Niacin (vitamin B3), vitamins B6, B12, zinc, and magnesium.

72 potential suicide victims saved in '07

As for the method of sending suicide messages, posting them to a bulletin board topped the list with 68 cases. In one case, police were asked for advice by a person who had intended to take part in a group suicide. Based on the information the person provided, police went to the location where those planning to take their lives were burning charcoal briquettes in a car in an attempt to die via carbon monoxide poisoning. The police were able to discourage them from committing suicide.

In August 2005, the NPA and Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry, together with four Internet industry groups, including the Telecommunications Carriers Association, drew up guidelines urging ISPs to disclose to police the personal information of people posting messages on Web sites outlining the details of suicide plans, such as the date and location.

Great Texas Warrant Roundup starts Saturday

Great Texas Warrant Roundup starts Saturday If you have an unpaid parking ticket, this is the day to settle up with the city. Law officers from more than 200 agencies across Texas are expected to begin making arrests Saturday morning. It's called the "Great Texas Warrant Roundup." And the handcuffs are coming out. About two weeks ago, hundreds of thousands of notices were mailed statewide. They warned people if they have outstanding warrants they could be arrested this weekend. That means Friday is the last day for you to pay and avoid a situation like this. Since these latest notices were mailed, many offenders have voluntarily come forward but many more people still have warrants. These warrants are for traffic violations and misdemeanors, which are punishable by a fine but no jail time.

Bush grants Navy waiver from sonar ruling

We cannot in good conscience send American men and women into potential trouble spots without adequate training to defend themselves," said Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead.Waters in high demandWhat has the Navy up in arms is a Jan. 3 decision by U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper in Los Angeles that restricted use of sonar in war exercises planned off the coast of San Diego and other Southern California counties through January 2009. The next such exercise is set to begin around the middle of next week and last several days. The ruling, called an injunction, bars sonar use within 12 miles of the shore and in an underwater canyon stretching from Santa Catalina Island off Orange County to the Navy-owned San Clemente Island west of San Diego. The canyon has a large concentration of wildlife. The Navy likes to train in Southern California's shallow waters and underwater canyons, as they teach sailors how to detect submarines in an environment where enemies love to hide.

Production notes

Even if you don't like comics or superhero films, there's a lot for you in MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND. Don's dialogue was naturalistic, contemporary, sharp -- and funny."

Payne's love for comedy -- evidenced in his work on perhaps the greatest comedy series of all time, "The Simpsons" -- is coupled with what he calls his "pure nerdom."

"I grew up reading a lot of comics, and I love comics to this day, much to my wife's chagrin," Payne says. "It's a nerd fantasy to have a superhero for a girlfriend, and I thought it'd be a fun idea to have a regular guy dating a superhero to disastrous results."

Payne notes that the notion of a super-enabled woman dating a regular guy had been explored previously; the television sitcoms "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie" are two notable examples.
