FDA issues ANPRM to revise mandatory nutrients

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) in the Federal Register, Docket No. 2006N-0168, titled Food Labeling: Revision of Reference Values and Mandatory Nutrients.

The ANPRM requests comments on what new reference values the agency should use to calculate the percent daily value (DV) in the Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts labels and what factors the agency should consider in establishing such new reference values.

In addition, FDA requests comments on whether it should require that certain nutrients be added or removed from the Nutrition Facts and Supplemental Facts labels.

Current rules concerning DV have been in effect since 1993. Those rules were developed on diet and health information that was current at the time.

RFU Strategic Plan 2005/6 - 2012/13 Elite Rugby

International Rugby delivers, directly or indirectly, virtually all the RFU's revenues. It is therefore essential that England has and maintains a successful national team with the right structures properly resourced and supported. A successful England team, creating sporting ‘stars' and role models, is the strongest marketing tool for the professional game, benefiting the Premiership clubs, the Community game and the professional players alike.

Objectives

England to retain the RWC in 2007214 The success of the England team is essential for the development of the game in England and for driving forward its commercial revenues at both club and international levels. With the World Class Performance Plan having been put in place in season 2001/02 and having won the RWC 2003 it is considered to be a realistic although challenging objective to retain the World Cup in 2007 with a minimum performance standard of no worse than a semi final place.

Implementing best practices to help cut herd health risks

Proactively improving wellness is the most important function of a herd health program."If our goal is to prevent fetal infections, we'd like immunity to be the highest when the threat is the greatest," says Gerald Stokka, a Pfizer Animal Health veterinarian. That's why he recommends pre-breeding vaccinations for cows and a first round of vaccinations for calves at one to two months of age.Stokka consulted on the Best Practices Manual, a new publication from Certified Angus Beef LLC (CAB), which contains a chart of optimal vaccines and timing. It suggests protection against parasites, as well as clostridial and respiratory diseases."Most vaccines should have a booster," Stokka says. "It's a difficult management task to achieve, but it would be best to give a booster."Viral vaccines at spring turnout can provide protection against summer pneumonias.

Yahoo's Yodel Turns Into a Whimper

At the Consumer Electronics Show a few weeks ago, Yahoo! (YHOO) Chief Executive Jerry Yang kicked off his keynote speech with a vow: "It is time to get Yahoo yodeling again." But on Jan. 29, after Yang issued a muted outlook for the coming year, including the layoffs of 1,000 employees, it became clear that the turnaround he wants to bring about won't happen for at least another year.

Yahoo said its fourth-quarter profit fell 23%, to $206 million, on a 14% rise in sales, to $1.4 billion, excluding commissions to marketing partners. But even though that met or outpaced expectations, the company's outlook for 2008 didn't. Yahoo expects revenue of $5.35 billion to $5.95 billion, missing the expectations of many analysts, whose average forecast is for sales of $5.88 billion. "The outlook was the real disappointment," says Rob Sanderson, an analyst at American Technology Research.

1SAN FRANCISCO Sewage spills in ...

An estimated 2.7 million gallons of partially treated sewage and storm water has spilled into San Francisco Bay from a treatment plant, authorities said. The accidental release occurred Thursday night, when rainwater overwhelmed the facility and an emergency alarm system failed, Marin County officials said Friday. County health officials are warning the public to avoid fishing or touching water in or around Richardson Bay, an arm of San Francisco Bay that stretches between Tiburon and Sausalito.

Back on track

A train stuck overnight in the Northern California mountains resumed its journey Saturday after a snow plow that was blocking the tracks was removed, officials said. Two Amtrak trains and about 400 passengers were initially stranded after the accident Friday.

Britney Spears

Children crave structure and discipline which Jamie Spears is dishing out like Bruce Lee if he ran a day care for 26-years-old. I rock at metaphors:

Britney's father is not allowing her to drink alcohol, see her friends and insists that she prays in her pajamas every night. Jamie has also been encouraging his daughter to teach childrens' classes at her favorite hangout, Millennium Dance Complex.

But Britney's fighting back and plotting a return to her care-free days of acting like a batshit moron in public:

So far, Britney has been compliant with her dad's rules, but sources tell OK! that the singer is in the midst of plotting her revenge. Britney has been sending secret text messages to her former party pal and cousin Alli Sims and is reportedly working with her and Sam Lutfi to try to oust her father as her conservator.

Local residents react to delisting newsBy PeterVandergrift, Enterprise Staff Writer

With gray wolves being removed from the endangered species list and management now under state control, local reaction to the news was mixed.

Some ranchers are relieved wolf management is now under state control.

"I have wolves right now wandering around my calving tin," said Pray-area rancher Alan Redfield. "As a rancher, we need to be able to protect our livestock and our family."

Redfield said he wonders how long it will be until a court order injunction will take control away from the state.
