| Dallas, I love you, but I've found Austin
Just about everybody who served or worked with Harriet Miers during her brief political career in Dallas remembers her as a hard-working, fair-minded moderate. When the Dallas political spectrum is properly framed against the national matrix, that means many people elsewhere will view her as a right-wing Christian nut case. .

Gaithersburg Mother Killed By Man Fleeing Police
GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA) - Friends say 32-year-old Beatrice Omoro was living the American dream. The Kenyan native was working as a nurse while raising two young children. But just before midnight her life came to a sudden end. Gaithersburg Police stopped 19-year-old Anthony James Kutten for driving without his headlights on. As the officer approached his vehicle, Kutten sped off. Police say he ran through two stop lights before smashing into a car driven by Omoro at the intersection of Odendhal Avenue and Goshen Road. Kutten fled on foot but was found a short time later. Omoro was taken to the hospital where she died. She leaves behind a two year old son and three month old daughter. Meanwhile, Kutten is in jail facing numerous charges including hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.
Gotta Feed The Kids
The K-Fed clan can continue to rest easy, for now, because there could be $200,000 coming their way. A major cable network has reportedly offered the pricy sum for a sit-down with the Kevs, and, believe it or not, he doesn't need to talk about Britney! That's the kicker. According to a Federline source, K-Fed has been offered $500,000 to spill about Brit and has refused. Nothing is set in stone yet for a new interview. Team Kevin are said to be angling for more money. Do we really wanna hear him talk about his "career" or his role as a father??? If he ain't talking Britney, it's not worth it! [Image via WENN.] .
Recap of Saturday, December 8
So if an event like that can't stop people from going to Virginia Tech, then the shooting in Omaha will not stop people from shopping at malls. Tobin Smith: We've unfortunately -- over the past seven or eight years -- had to talk about a lot of these kinds of events on our program. And the one thing we have learned is that we are not going to let insane people change our lifestyle. Joe Battipaglia: This shows us that Americans are heroes. This also shows us that in the future (at a place like a mall), people will be more aware and will maybe go to the authorities more readily if they see someone suspicious. Scott Bleier: What this event shows us is that women will still shop for handbags and men will still shop for electronics: that is the fact of the matter, especially when it is a disturbed person doing it.
NIU Community Wonders: Why Cole Hall?
All of which makes the Valentine's Day shooting at Cole Hall, where Kazmierczak fatally shot five people before committing suicide, even more confusing to university officials, investigators and people who knew him. "By all accounts, this young man enjoyed some of the greatest satisfaction and success of his life at this institution, and why he chose to come back to here and commit this heinous crime is a mystery," NIU spokeswoman Melanie Magara said. "There was not a hint of trouble with this guy." Kazmierczak left no suicide note and took very specific steps to hide his motive. He had removed the hard drive from his laptop computer and his cell phone's SIM card, a key computer chip, Magara said. Adding to the questions has been apparently conflicting information from his former girlfriend, Jessica Baty.
TURKEY: WORRIES MOUNT OVER GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO ...
The recent vote in the Turkish parliament ending the ban on headscarves at public universities is raising concern about the future direction of Turkey. Some political observers are voicing concern that the government may be turning away from its broad reform agenda covering domestic democratization and Turkeys European Union bid. "The perception shared by many intellectuals is that this reform [over headscarves] will come at the expense of other reforms," says veteran Turkish journalist Yavuz Baydar, a columnist for the English-language newspaper Todays Zaman. "Some intellectuals [who support the government] are starting to have second thoughts about whether the government has a well-defined strategy for change for Turkey, and what triggered this doubt is the priority that the government has put on the headscarf issue." The constitutional reform package that ended the headscarf ban zipped through parliament, after first being introduced only a few weeks ago by the liberal Islamic Justice and Development Party (AKP) government.
If a food's nutrition label says no cholesterol, then it's "heart ...
Reality: Not always. Nutrition labels are helpful when choosing heart-healthy foods, but look at them closely, advises the American Heart Association. Many "low-cholesterol" foods contain high levels of saturated and/or trans fat, both of which contribute to high blood cholesterol. Even "low-fat" foods may have a higher fat content than expected. Look at the amount of saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol and total calories per serving (and check the serving size -- often, it's smaller than you'd think). The first ingredient is the most important -- fats and oils should be listed low. .
